Prehistoric Coastal Landscapes

Dorset has a varied landscape of downs, valleys and coastline, with many interesting features to explore! Perhaps the best known is the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, a stretch of land filled to the brim with prehistoric dinosaur fossils – if you have an interest in paleontology, definitely check out the Dinosaur Museum in the county town of Dorchester!

Lively Towns and Villages

Dorset is known for being a very rural county, with many small villages and just a few larger towns. The popular seaside resort of Bournemouth is the largest town, and is the perfect spot for soaking up the sun on the beach or playing in one of the many classic seaside arcades. This is followed in size by the historic port of Poole, with its main attractions being the Georgian Old Town and natural harbour. Historic market towns include Shaftesbury and Blandford Forum, while Lyme Regis and Swanage are popular coastal towns.
