When you go on holiday to Cornwall, you can even argue that you aren’t just travelling to another spot in England – its unique, ancient cultural identity has led many to class it as a completely separate entity. This can be seen in the language of Cornish, as well as in the unique visual arts scene, which takes inspiration from the beauty of the area with its vibrant, colourful aesthetic. This stunning seaside county has long been a popular holiday destination, and there’s plenty of reasons beyond pasties why you should see it for yourself!
Sun Soaked Beaches
You might associate the UK with grey skies and pouring rain, but this isn’t always the case! Cornwall is known for its sunny vistas and sandy beaches, and the Isles of Scilly to the southwest often experience temperatures in the high twenties – perfect for sunbathing and swimming! Some areas of the coastline have even been designated as Outstanding Areas of Natural Beauty; if you visit, it’s easy to see why!
These beaches are also the ideal spot for some of Cornwall’s favourite pastimes: surfing and sailing! You can get involved yourself or come down to watch one of the many national championships that take place in Newquay.
Picturesque Towns and Villages
But it isn’t only the natural areas that contribute to Cornwall’s beauty. Towns like St Ives, Fowey and St Mawes all draw thousands of visitors per year because of their picturesque architecture and harbours, as well as their connection to local history, particularly to the fishing industry that kept Cornwall thriving for centuries.
The Eden Project
If you want to check out a more contemporary attraction, then look no further than the Eden Project, a complex of enclosures opened in 2001. Made up of two enormous biomes that have tropical and mediterrean climates, the site is focused on gathering plants from diverse areas to one gorgeous location. There’s also a botanical garden that displays plants native to Cornwall, and even the Eden Sessions concerts that huge names like Elton John, Madness, and Blondie have headlined!
