World Renowned Cities
East Scotland is home to not just some of the most influential cities in the UK, but in Europe. By far the most well known is Edinburgh, a historic and cultural hub for the country with gorgeous architecture, countless attractions, and world renowned festivals. The ancient castle overlooking the city can be seen from most points in Edinburgh, and is more than worth the trek up the hill to explore. Tourist spots like Edinburgh Zoo and the National Museum of Scotland are all fantastic days out in their own right, and if you plan on visiting in summer, checking out up and coming comedy acts at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is a must.
But this is just one of the brilliant cities East Scotland has to offer. Travel further North and you’ll reach places like Dundee and Aberdeen, more remote cities with their own unique attractions and histories.
The Expanse of Perthshire
But if you’d rather get away from the bustle of the city, you should take a trip to the tranquil forests of Perthshire. Surrounding the city of Perth, the eastern section of the region has some fantastic cycling routes along cliffs and riversides, as well as small towns like Strathmore to touch base with between hikes. With lochs, mountains and forests, this is an area that epitomises the Scottish countryside.
Serene East Lothian Beaches
Alternatively, you can look to East Scotland for a seaside holiday away from busy resorts and jam packed beaches. They may not have the heat of beaches abroad, but their untouched beauty is unmatched, and the windy weather is perfect for surfing and kite flying! There’s also many to choose from – do you want to see the rock pools of Yellowcraig, or the cliffs of Bellhaven? Why not make a tour of them!
